Here in the US, we celebrate today as being the shortest day of the year. The Winter Solstice will occur at 11:48pm here on the East Coast and I always love to observe this day as now we can start moving back into more hours of sunlight. Even though we aren't observing the coldest temps of the season, (far from it, actually!) it marks the end of the "dark season", and always brings with it the hope of light and warmth.
Today the sun rose at 7:22am and set at 4:26pm. It's always so funny to think that at this time during summer (it's 6:40pm as I type this) we still have a few hours of sunshine left in the day!
I hope you are all having a lovely time, enjoying the last few days before Christmas. I have done really well on my "get stuff done" list and am excited to say that I am caught up on gift wrapping and I weeded through all of the girls toys and have so many boxes to donate. It feels SO GOOD to have de-cluttered their rooms!!
I also caught "The Sound of Music" on TV last night and enjoyed it so much! It's one of my all time favorite movies.
If I'm not able to sneak in one more post before Christmas, I want to wish you all a very merry and wonderul holiday.
xoxo Farrah
Merry Christmas Farrah! Yesterday was my summer solstice :) I hope you have a great time with your family these holidays >.<

Merry Christmas to you as well, Lydia! It's always so neat to hear about how people on the opposite hemisphere are celebrating the longest day of the year at the same time. Enjoy that summer sunshine! :)

DeleteMerry Christmas! I'm always glad when the winter solstice gets here because then it's all better from there on! I hate the gloominess of winter.

DeleteMerry Christmas Farrah! The Sound of Music is a great movie to watch this time of year :-).

DeleteMerry Christmas to you and a happy New Year, Farrah Lily. Congratulations on being so organised. It was summer solstice for me and it looks like it's going to be a long, hot summer.

DeleteMerry Christmas Farrah! Hope you have a great holiday!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lisa, Merry Christmas to you too! :)
DeleteAt this time of year I think about spring and gardening. My seed and gardening catalogs are arriving. I'm making my special wish list. I think about last seasons harvest...what did well and what didn't. I plan and hope for a good harvest in 2016. The solstice is my count down! I feel like a runner in the starting blocks....coiled....looking ahead.
ReplyDeleteHi Ms. Leo..I love thinking about Spring and wondering if all the bulbs I planted this past fall will pop up. I love your runner in starting blocks analogy...perfect! :)
DeleteHi Farrah, I'm with you on the winter solstice, it's just such a lovely welcoming thought that each day will now get a tiny bit longer. We generally don't get dark here, even right in the middle of winter, until about 6.30pm but still I like to watch it getting nearer to 7pm and so on ..... lovely!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that you're all caught up and ready for Christmas, I'm almost there now and tomorrow my mum and brother arrive from the UK. Although I will definitely miss my son Brendan this year, that's for sure!
I got your message on my blog, I've just not had a chance to respond yet. I'm glad the girls got their parcel and that they were happy with them. I wanted to get them some more Spanish things, such as castanets and marracas, but my dear hubby said that maybe you'd never speak to me again if I sent such noisy things! LOL.....maybe next time! ;)
Have a great Christmas and a very happy New Year!
Big hugs Sharon xxx
Lol, your hubby is smart! Lol, We are a pretty musical family so of course I wouldn't have minded. :) Thank you again, they really enjoyed it and were fascinated when I got out the globe and showed them that the package came all the way from Spain! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you as well and I hope you have a lovely time with your mum and brother! Big hugs back xo
